Hand drawn heirloom portraits celebrating the extraordinary
relationships between people and the animals that shape their lives.
"You can't use up creativity.
The more you use, the more you have.”
Maya Angelou
Every relationship has a story.
Whether you've spent years building an incredible partnership with your horse - competing together, exploring the countryside, simply enjoying those quiet moments in the stable after everyone else has gone home; or curling up on the sofa with the dog who has been by your side through every chapter of life.
These moments deserve to be cherished and preserved.
My portraits are created to honour these memories and celebrate the extraordinary bond between people and the animals they love.
I'm Jo, a coloured pencil artist based in the beautiful South Downs of England.
I specialise in highly detailed, hand-drawn portraits that celebrate the connection between people and their horses, dogs and other much-loved companions.
For me, a portrait is about so much more than achieving a likeness. It's about capturing character, spirit, partnership and connection that make every relationship unique.
Working in coloured pencil is a slow and often meditative process. I really love watching each subject gradually and organically emerge on the paper and come to life through multiple layers of pigment. Many of my commissions mark significant moments in people's lives. A one of a kind horse, a retirement, a first pony, a faithful dog, the passing of a much-loved companion. It is always a labour of love and a real privilege to be entrusted with such meaningful stories.
If you're considering a portrait, I'd be delighted to hear about the animal who means so much to you and discuss creating something truly personal.
